Meet Our Founder

Founder Anita Hadiza Smitherman is the founder and executive director of Houz of Dyza, a Texas-based nonprofit committed to improving the lives of children, strengthening families, and empowering underserved communities. Born and raised in Nigeria, her childhood experiences moving across communities due to her father's military career gave her an early understanding of both privilege and hardship, planting the seeds for a lifelong commitment to serving others with dignity and compassion.

Today, Anita channels that same heart into Houz of Dyza, alongside a successful career in human resources within Fortune 500 organizations. As a wife, mother, and nonprofit leader, she remains dedicated to building an organization that leads with integrity, serves with compassion, and reminds every child that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to dream, every family deserves the chance to thrive, and every community deserves partners who believe in its potential."

— Anita Smitherman
